California Golf Club
San Francisco, CA U.S.A.
The California Golf Club of San Francisco was founded in 1918 and is one of the premier courses in Northern-California. In 2020, Sensequake and their partners Okamoto Structural Engineers were approached to assess the structural integrity and seismic performance of the course’s clubhouse with their innovative technology.
After a few-hour on-site test of the building, the vibration data was analyzed in order to obtain the building’s baseline. This was then used to conduct a global seismic evaluation of the structure without needing detailed structural plans or finite-element models, both of which are rare to find for historic structures such as this clubhouse. The results of the seismic evaluation were compared to both HAZUS and ASCE 41-17 performance levels to obtain a clear picture of the building’s performance during an earthquake.
The California Golf Club of San Francisco, now equipped with the clubhouse’s smart-baseline, can be better prepared during a future earthquake. The building can now be quickly re-evaluated to safely confirm its health status, limit any downtime and reduce any retrofit costs. Sensequake and Okamoto Structural Engineers applaud the California Golf Club of San Francisco in taking important steps towards ensuring the safety of their clientele, staff and building.
