The Port of Long Beach is the second busiest container port in the United States. As a way to optimize their maintenance program, pre-emptively detect structural anomalies and seismically instrument their new wharf structure, Sensequake designed a program specifically for monitoring this unique structure. 
 

The monitoring program for this new structure includes:

• Temporary, in-depth tests of the wharf using Sensequake’s wireless Larzé sensors to extract the baseline every year. This allows obtaining a detailed snapshot of the wharf over time to detect damage or after a concerning strong-motion event.

• Installation of Sensequake’s ShakeLog sensors to record the structure’s performance during earthquakes and strong-motion events and automatically perform structural health monitoring over time.

In creating the monitoring program, the Port can be assured of the integrity of its new structure over time, reducing costs through pre-emptive maintenance, increase safety after concerning events and better understand its seismic performance.
